My husband and I visited Samoa a couple of years ago and I just can’t get the place out of my head! We stayed at Tanu Beach resort and one of my lingering memories is of sitting on the steps of our fale a few metres from the beach watching another glorious sunset listening to one of the Samoan family men singing “Killing Me Softly” with a beautiful resonant voice as children frolicked in the water. Even though there was sound, it was so still and peaceful. Magical.
My husband too has a favourite beach memory. We arrived in the early hours of the morning at Virgin Cove and it was dark. When he got up later in the morning and stepped onto the palm lined beach for the first time and saw his surroundings properly for the first time, he said that he felt he was transported to another world. The warmth of the early morning sun, the gentle lapping of the water and beauty of the beach and vegetation was like a dream come true – even more spectacular than he could have ever imagined a tropical paradise would be.

I have just come back from Samoa and I stayed at Tanu beach too. It was the best. The family are just the most wonderful people and the beach is pristeen. We ate,slept,swam,ate,read,swam slept,walked,slept,ate. :]]
I need to go back.
We as a family of 2 adults and 2 children aged 6 & 8 spent 4 weeks in Samoa. Our favourite place to stay was Satuiatua Beach Fales on Savaii. The location was great, it was quiet, the food was great and the owner was wonderful. We also liked Virgin Cove but I believe they no longer accept young children. On Upolu, Lolomanu and the area around it was beautiful. We also stayed at Tanu’s but we unfortunately were not impressed and I think Vacations Fales would have been a better option.
We stayed at Virgin Cove and Taufua Beach Fales. Virgin Cove was blissful, so beautiful. The fales are well spaced apart in the bush and private. You are far from anywhere you cannot buy insect repellant sunscreen etc so take it all with you. The food is good and the young voices harmonising with guitars made every dinner special. The coral is right there, but some brown moss seems to be slowly growing over it; the fish are so colourful, the water so clear and warm. Watch out for the slippery rocks and holes in the paths at night where the coconut crabs dig! I thought it was so romantic and relaxing.
Taufua beach fales was totally different, fun and vibrant and so close to everyone and everything. Shared meals made it all fun, the fire dancing was great and the food just kept on coming! The coral was beautiful and so close to shore, the snorkelling was great and the sunsets from the dining area were spectacular. A lot of young people and the fiafia group practised across the road which was nice.
The sand on the beaches are pure white and very fine. The color of the ocean is an incredible blue green color that has to be seen and cannot be replicated on film. You can laze out on the beach and day Dream all day.
