Hello, my name is Lesa, we have booked a trip to Samoa for a wedding in Apia, leaving NZ December 26 - can anyone in Samoa please re-assure me if it will be safe to travel there at this time, as i know there have been a couple more smaller earthquakes since the tsunami has happened. We have a small child and i am really starting to worry....

Thank you.... our love & prayers to all in Samoa

Hi guys.

I visited Samoa on march 2001, for 3 weeks, after a long trekking trip down in NZ (half a year almost). I loved Samoa - one of the best places I've ever been too.

Here's my short Samoan travelogue from that time. In Apia I stayed in Seipepa (you can even catch Mats and Sia in one of the breakfast photos) - what a wonderful guest house.

My favorite place was Savaii however, staying in Tanu beach most of the time.

Hopefully one day I'll bring my wife and new daughter for a visit too...

We will be coming back, in September'09, to renew the many freindships we made in '08, & do some more family research. The awesome scenery, and the friendly honest people made our last visit a tribute to my departed Dad, and I am hoping to give something to Samoa, when I return, as I have a lot of old photos taken in the 1920's, which I will donate to the National Museum. I am also spreading the word on Lonely Planet, & TripAdvisor, on the lovely country of Samoa. I have assisted a mapmaker in NZ & we have produced some Autorouting Maps of Samoa, that are compatable with Garmin GPS, available from -

http://rcmaps.googlepages.com/samoa_maps

The way we did it can be found at - http://gwprojects.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=390

I have also put a lot of effort into the new Google Mapmaker programme, spending a lot of hours so that Google Earth will portray Samoa's roads, and beautiful countryside accurately.
Both the above projects are 'works in progress' so any feedback will be gratefully accepted.

Thanks burgla
