With all these 4-5star hotels in the pipeline.........how many rich - filthy rich people come to our shores to occupy these hotels? Has there ever been a survey done on that? I doubt it.

What we should be doing, is building hotels and motels where the rich to ordinary then to the basic tourist who may have saved up for years just to have a nice down to earth and a once in a lifetime holiday here in our very own South Pacific Islands. If they want, they will have a choice but the ordinary tourist wants to experience the natural way of life at a reasonable cost. If they want to live it up with a high rise lifestyle holiday, they can easily go to Hawaii, Australia Gold Coast, Hong Kong, Singapore, Las Vegas etc.

We should not let our minds run away and build beyond our means, then expect the occupiers of these stupidities, to foot the bills.

Be simple, be humble, be reasonable and you will find that we will attract the visitors and they will come in droves.

I strongly feel that any kind of accommodation offered to tourist and locals meet, the standards of prices quoted. Many hotels, motels, backpackers and beach fales are over rated and many are just 'over priced' considering their standards.
Samoa has to compare itself to what is offered in other countries. Do we favorably compare?

I travel alot and live in hotel and motel type accommodations and when I come back home to Samoa and when I do go for short holiday breaks to some of our local hotels and motels, there are alot of improvements to make to qualify them to the sometimes ridiculous prices per room, per night charged. Another concern is the USD rates charged, why is this?
The Tourism Bureau needs to take a more closer look at what is being offered and priced to enable us to compete with outside countries and to be fair on those who wish to take a holiday without going 'BROKE' with it. Not only that, our reputation goes with how we portray ourselves in what we offer to the tourist or client occupying these accommodations.

I would be very pleased and gladly take on a job, on behalf of the Government and the Samoa Visitors Bureau of visiting each and every Hotel, Motel, Beach Fale and Resort accommodation and give them Ratings and submit what 'Price' each accommodation should be costed per night or day and make other recommendations.

These types of assessments should be made regularly, because all accommodations vary with their improvements or non-improvements each year. Samoa must be on top of it's game if we want to promote ourselves as 'THE' place for tourists to come and visit.

Not only should we cater for the tourists, but our locals as well. They are the biggest contributors to this economy by the level of occupancy for holidays or just short getaways. You only have to look at the Reservations Book.
